AGMARK and World Food Program (WFP) – Purchase for Progress (P4P) Project aimed to build Agrodealers capacity in grain bulking and aggregation. They conducted joint sensitization visits to farmers and Agrodealers, on the need to engage in grain bulking . from February 2010 to January 2011, AGMARK and the WFP – P4P partnered to train and facilitate selected Agrodealers in Kenya to undertake grain bulking and aggregation in Western, Rifty valley, Eastern and Central province of Kenya.

The US Ambassador to Rome Based agencies Ambassador Ettharin Cousin addressing farmers and Agrodealers in Kisumu County during a one day visit to Marenyo Community Cereal Bank, one of the agro dealers successfully procuring grain from smallholder farmers and supplying to WFP.

Goal

To connect farmers to markets through building and strengthening the capacity of Agrodealers to engage in output marketing activities through integration of input and output distribution systems.

Approach

1. Trained Agrodealers on grain bulking and aggregation.
2. Supported Agrodealers by improving their storage facilities and providing them with basic grain bulking equipment’s (Weighing scales, moisture meters, sieves, stitching machines, tarpaulins, pallets and Gunny Bags) through a matching investment facility.
